THREE 470 OLYMPIANS COMPETING IN THE VOLVO OCEAN RACE
13 Oct 2014The Volvo Ocean Race kicked off on Leg 1 from Alicante, Spain to Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday 11 October 2014. Amongst the 12 Olympians who set sail on the epic 38,739 nautical mile adventure around the globe which is the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 are three former 470 sailors and Olympians.
Ian Walker (GBR) who won silver at the 1996 Olympics is skippering Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing and on his third Volvo Ocean Race. Andre Fonseca (BRA) competed in the 2000 Olympics and is also on his third Volvo Ocean Race onboard Mapfre as watch captain. Carolijn Brouwer (NED) is crew member on board the all-girl team SCA Racing. Brouwer competed in the 470 at the 2000 Olympics and is on her second Volvo Ocean Race.
