Japan is the winner of the second edition of the 470 Nations Trophy, with an almost perfect score.

In an epic medal race, where the silver and bronze medals were changing hands in each mark rounding, Japan celebrated a triple victory, with Spain also overtaking Germany for second place.

Japan has won the 2023 World championship, the "David Barnes trophy” and the "470 Nations Trophy”.

The 470 2023 Nations Trophy top three nations are:

1. Japan, Keiju Okada - Miho Yoshioka & Tetsuya Isozaki - Yurie Seki
2. Spain, Jordi Xammar - Nora Brugman & Silvia Mas - Nicolas Rodriguez
3. Germany, Malte Winkel - Anastasia Winkel & Simon Diesch - Anna Markfort




Furthermore, the 470 ICA for the first time in sailing awarded a gold medal to the coach of the new 470 world champions Keiju Okada - Miho Yoshioka.

The Japanese coach, Kazuto Seki, a 470 Olympic bronze medallist is the first ever to receive it.

 

David Barnes Trophy

The 2023 David Barnes Trophy, in memory of the legendary Kiwi 470 sailor who won the Worlds three times back in the 1980’s was awarded to the new 470 world champions Keiju Okada  and Miho Yoshioka.

Olympic Games “tickets”

The first eight nations to join France for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in 470’s are Japan, Spain, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Israel, Portugal, Switzerland. (Subject to final confirmation by World Sailing). Six more places will be awarded at the upcoming Continental Qualifier events, one per continent, with the remaining 4 places to be allocated at the Last Chance qualifier next April.
