Gold Medals in 470 Fleet at China National Games
No racing on Sunday’s final day of racing at the China National Games, as a major wind shift put an end to the medal race, with the overnight positions standing for the medals. Gold medals to China's Wang Chao/Lan Hao in the 470 Men and Wang Xiaoli/Huang Xufeng in the 470 Women.
After the pre-event qualification, 14 teams contested the 470 Men event and 8 teams in the 470 Women.
Despite a 15th in race 3 and a 10th in race 5, Wang Chao/Lan Hao posted top 5 results and won gold with an 8 point margin. In the 470 Women, competition amongst the 8 teams was a bit closer with just 4 points between the gold and silver.
470 Men
Gold medal: Wang Chao/Lan Hao, Hainan Province – 18 pts
Silver medal: Lv Dongwu/Chen Hechi, Fujian Province – 26 pts
Bronze medal: Xu Zangjun/Mao Yadong, Zhejiang Province – 31 pts
470 Women
Gold medal: Wang Xiaoli/Huang Xufeng, Shandong Province – 20 pts
Silver medal: Yu Chunyan/Xu Xiaomei, Zhejiang Province – 24 pts
Bronze medal: He Xinyan/Wei Mengxi, Zhejiang Province – 33 pts
Wang Xiaoli/Huang Xufeng also claimed China's first ever 470 World Championship medal at last month's 470 Worlds where they secured bronze.
The premier national sports event in China, the China National Games pitches provinces against each other in a multi-sport event, which is effectively a mini-Olympics, with a total of 350 events across 31 sports. The 12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China took place in Dalian, Liaoning Province, from 28 August - 8 September.
