THE 2023 EDITION OF THE 470 EUROPEAN TROPHY & WORLD MASTER'S CUP CONCLUDED ON BRACCIANO’S LAKE

Bracciano, 6th August – The 470 European Trophy & World Master's Cup 2023 edition ended with great success. Crews from 10 European nations participated in this great event at the Planet Sail in Bracciano.

This event proved that Sport and Territory are strongly connected. The natural park of Bracciano and Martignano’s Lake hosted the race giving all the participants and spectators strong emotions and helping to spread knowledge about the park’s natural beauties, confirming that sporting events, such as this important international competition, can be a vehicle of sports culture and knowledge of the cultural, artistic and touristic heritage of the areas that host them.

The success of the event was possible thanks to the punctual and efficient organization of Planet Sail and the team of young sportsmen who worked tirelessly during the five days of the regatta both on land and in water.

Many spectators attended the regatta both from the Planet Sail club and from the Sabazia motor ship of the Bracciano’s Lake Consortium where they could follow the race closely.

The awards ceremony was exciting, with the participation of local and regional authorities, sports institutions and its representatives - Alessandra Somaschini, head of the Lazio Region Environmental Department - Marco Crocicchi, Mayor of Bracciano – Claudia Maciucchi, Mayor of Trevignano Romano – Christian Calabrese, Councilor of Anguillara Sabazia – Francesco Pizzorno, President of the Bracciano’s Lake Consortium - Vincenzo Losito, President of the Italian Class 470 – Andrea Mauro, sports director of the IV FIV zone.

The championship

Nine races in 4 days were sailed with the good weather conditions. The favorable wind especially in the first 3 days, gave everyone the feeling of an excellent event.

Correctness and great technical skills of all the crews allowed to see wonderful starts and exciting finishes as the races turned to be extremely technical, thanks also to the particular weather conditions of Bracciano’s Lake due to the sea’s proximity.

The favorites - the Dutch of NED55, Benny and Jan Kouwenhoven and the Germans of GER5082, Uti and Frank Thieme- confirmed their predictions by placing themselves at the top of the general and category classifications. Spectacular the sixth round with the Dutch brothers fought the whole regatta against the Italian crew of ITA4552, Gianfreda and Pierpaoli, up to end the race with an adrenaline final and the Dutch triumph by really a few lengths.

The winners

The President of the Rotary Club Roma Olgiata Veio Massimo Pirri awarded the special prize to the local ITA16 crew of Parra and Maltagliati first in the junior category.

For the Apprentice category, the Mayor of Bracciano Marco Crocicchi and the President of the Planet Sail club Lorena Avincola awarded the first step of the podium SUI96 to Julian Flessati and Claudia Lenggenhager, in second place ITA4479 to Angelica Monti and Michela Boldrini followed by ITA4541 and Matteo Pettenello and Stefano Castegnaro in third place.

On the podium of the Master's category awarded by Alessandra Somaschini of the Lazio Region, the Germans of GER5082 of Uti and Frank Thieme finished in first place, in second place the ITA3 crew of Umberto Felci and Michele Casano and in third place ITA4552 of Marco Gianfreda and Giulio Pierpaoli .

In the Grand Master category, the president of the Italian Class 470 Vincenzo Losito and the President of the Consortium of Lake Bracciano Francesco Pizzorno awarded first place NED55 by Benny and Jan Kouwenhoven, second GER4727 by Nana Busch and Christoph Busch and third place ITA84 by Giacomo Maranzana and George Leone.

For the Grand Grand Master category, the Mayor of Trevignano Romano Claudia Maciucchi and the Sales Director of Unidata Marco Muzi awarded the first place to the French duo of FRA68 Bernard Boime and Gilles Espinasse, followed by the Germans of GER 52 Karlo Schmiedel and Arne Berdan. Bronze medal for the Italian crew of ITA 71 Mauro Giaculli and Vittorio Deho'.

On the podium of the European Open Trophy 2023, the President Vincenzo Losito and the Councilor of Anguillara Sabazia Christian Calabrese awarded the Dutch twins Benny and Jan Kouwenhoven of NED55 in first place, followed by GER5082 of Uti and Frank Thieme and the very young ITA16 in third place Adalberto Parra and Flavia Maltagliati. After this successful edition the next appointment is in France on Biscarosse’s Lake from 16th to 20th July for the 470 World Master's Cup 2024 edition.
