FIVE LIGHT-WIND RACES AND TIGHT FIGHT FOR THE FIRST PLACE ON THE 470 HUNGARIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

23 Jul 2022

Fourteen boats gathered for the 470 Hungarian national championship in THE, the club that will host the 2022 470 Junior Worlds and the Master's Cup.

Last few weeks were surprisingly windy at the lake Balaton, but unfortunately it stopped for the championship.

Day 1 gone with no wind, and an all-day long postponement. On the second day the race committee managed to have one light wind race in the afternoon. Same thing happened on the third race day, but in the morning, there was some thermic breeze, which gave the perfect opportunity for another light wind race. On Thursday 2 races were sailed with the last one started 1 minute before the limit time.

The championship wasn’t decided until the last race. Last year’s Hungarian champion (HUN1 Vida Péter-Batiz Ábel) had to fight with a young duo switching from 420 to 470 (HUN17 Benyó Máté-Horváth Ákos), and a Ukrainian boat training for the Junior Worlds (UKR22 Lepsha Tetiana-Samarin Yehor). They finished one point from each other, HUN17 with 7, HUN1 with 8, and UKR22 with 9 points.

Congratulations to all participating teams!
