DAY 3 MORNING UPDATE: WHEN THE BOOM HITS YOUR NOSE, TACK!26 Oct 2022
It’s the first day of gold fleet racing and the wind is blowing nicely, but offshore. Which means it’s going to shifty and wacky on the race course. Maybe even more so than yesterday.
After another good day on the water, current yellow bib wearer Luise Wanser revealed her secret for success in shifty conditions: “When the boom hits my nose, I tack.” Actually her nose didn’t look that bruised, so she clarified: “Yes, I try to duck my head before the boom hits my nose.”
That could be a good piece of advance for today. When the jib backs, tack. Of course nothing in 470 racing is quite so simple, but keeping your head out of the boat will be an absolute must for this afternoon’s two gold fleet races.
The Germans dominated Tuesday. Will current leaders Luise Wanser & Philipp Autenrieth (GER) retain the yellow bib for another day? Or what about the Olympic medallists currently outside the top 10? The Spanish in 11th or the Swedes in 12th for example.
Wednesday is also the first day for live tracking and live broadcast of the racing, which you can find here: https://www.sport5.co.il/articles.aspx?FolderID=6045&docID=418043
