Monday July 19th was the first day of registration and measurements for the 2022 470 Junior European Championship taking place in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The 470 International Class Association invites and encourages the non-Olympic campaigning teams regardless the crew gender combination, to enter the following 470 official events for the 2022:

The International 470 Class Management Committee has been in continuous contact with our event organizers ever since our last communication with you. We are in a position now to give you the latest situation update:

Mixed teams were welcomed for the first time since 2012 at the 470 Europeans in Sanremo last May and at the 470 Junior Worlds in Portoroz in early July, but it was at the 2019 470 Junior Europeans that the first official 470 Class title was awarded to Mixed teams, 17 of them competing in the beautiful Galician waters off Vilagarcia de Arousa.

After ranking 21st a year ago in the European Championship held in Sesimbra, winning bronze in 2019 Junior Worlds, and gold in Vilagarcía de Arousa, German pair Schlüchter/Eichhorst have been unstoppable for the past twelve months and in the twelve races of this Junior championship.

The Germans Schlüter and Eichhorst lead the 470 fleet to the Medal Race. Their hard work during the week has given taken Lucas Schlüter y Frederick Eichhorst all the way to the lead of the overall results of the 470 Junior Europeans, after two more races today. 

Nikolaos Brilakis and Nikolaos Georgakopoulos (Piraeus Sailing Club) are the leaders of the Men/Mixed  fleet after scoring 6th and 10th in today’s races. With the conditions of today, light wind of 9 knots, they look determined to fight for the Gold.

Suddenly the wind shifted and the leaders were reached. Today, the 470 Junior European Men and Mixed Gold fleet started with a surprise. After having scored first in all the races in the qualifying series, the French Jerome Demange and Luc Guimbertaud (85034 CNHR) fell out of the top ten places in the two races of today, finishing 12th in both races. The Greek Nikolaos Brilakis and Nikolaos Georgakopoulos (Piraeus Sailing Club) took advantage of the situation and thanks to their astonishing regularity managed to get tied in the leading position of the overall results.

Different conditions on the first day, but no changes in the male, female or mixed leadership.

Vilagarcía, 25 july 2019.- With only two qualifying days, the 470 fleet sailed in the Alfa area, the closest to Vilagarcía (south of the islet of O Con and the Malveira Islands), with the clear lead of the Germans Theres Dahnke and Birte Winkel (Plauer Wassersportverein eV / Schweriner-Yachtclub) in the women's category (1-1-1, 2 points after the discard), with eleven boats, and the French Jerome Demange and Luc Guimbertaud (85034 CNHR). The French, as the Germans, scored three victories in the general male and mixed fleet of 48 boats.

Notice of Race for 2019 470 class Junior Europeans is now published!

The Galician Sailing Federation will host the 2019 470 Junior European Championship from 23-30 July 2019 at its venue at Vilagarcia de Arousa in north-western Spain.

The beach atmosphere was buzzing this morning as teams prepared for the final day of the Championships and medal deciding performances for some.

A repeat of Monday morning's weather as the fog blocked the view on Tuesday morning, before giving way to another perfect blue sky day and racing underway just after 1400 hours for the 470s, and almost two hours later for the 420s.

Race day 4 dawned with dense fog on Sesimbra beach and visibility at 100 metres - not an unusual occurrence here. Local Portuguese weather gurus assured it would lift, and after a 2 hour postponement the fog gave way to sun and breeze.

Race day 3 marked both the halfway stage of the 420/470 Junior European Championships in Sesimbra, Portugal and a change in race track conditions.

The beach here at the 420/470 Junior Europeans in Portugal is providing a stunning venue for teams from around the world.

It doesn't get better than the race track conditions served up to the 396 sailors from 20 nations on race day 1 at the 2018 420/70 Junior European Championships.

Staged in the stunning Portuguese beach resort of Sesimbra, the 420/470 Junior European Championship features a line-up of 396 sailors from 20 nations.

420 and 470 teams from 19 countries paraded along the waterfront of Sesimbra, waving their national flags to formally launch the 2018 420/470 Junior European Championships in spectacular style.

The 470 junior clinic was carried out at Sesimbra between 29.6.18 and 2.7.18 and concluded today with success and with participation of 10 boats from six different nations.

A fast and dramatic final day saw races won, medals claimed, dreams made and takeways of how to improve for the next Championship.

The 470 Men Gold, Men Silver and Women's fleets were again out on the race track early, to take advantage of the breeze.

Race day 4 and the 470 Class hit the race track early for an 0800 hours start in the hope of getting back on track after missing a day of racing yesterday.

An early race programme for the three hundred and two sailors in the 420 fleet meant an abrupt 0530 hours wake-up call ahead of an 0800 hours scheduled start.

As Argentina’s Lucia Miranda laughed after her win in race 3 today, "You need two brains and four eyes!"

Day one of racing at the 2017 420 and 470 Junior Europeans started, was abandoned and then got back into full swing with all fleets completing two races.

The 2017 420 and 420 Class Junior European Championships has descended on the sailing mecca of Lake Garda, Italy.

The International 470 Class Association launched its four-year development programme with a clinic prior to the 2017 470 World Championships, led by the iconic 470 sailor, Olympic medallists and four-time World Champion, Sofia Bekatorou.

470s are available for charter at the Junior European Championships in Lake Garda, Italy, with boats provided by NEWBLUE.EU and Nautivela.

Lake Balaton was ironed flat on race day 5 at the 2016 GROUPAMA 420/470 Junior European Championships.

Big breeze this morning as Lake Balaton welcomed the 406 sailors from 23 nations on day 4 of the 2016 GROUPAMA 420/470 Junior European Championships.

Postponements ashore and afloat turned into a final conclusion of no wind, no play on race day 3 at the 2016 420/470 Junior Europeans on Lake Balaton.

Stunning race conditions on day 2 at the 420 Junior Europeans delivered another full programme, with three races for the 420 Open and U17 fleets, and two for each of the 470 Men and 470 Women.

With Saturday’s Opening Ceremony formally kicking off the 2016 420 and 470 Junior European Championship, today racing got underway with a packed 3 race programme for each fleet.

Before getting on the plane from Madrid to Rio with the entire Spanish Olympic team, 470 junior stars Jordi Xammar/Joan Herp sent a message to their friends competing in the 470 Class at the Junior Europeans.

A tense final day waiting game at the 420 and 470 Junior Europeans in Pwllheli, Great Britain as teams waited for the forecast 9 knot breeze to fill in.

A breezy day of racing at the 420 and 470 Junior European Championships, with some particularly high scorelines for the series leaders in the 420 fleet as the lighter teams were knocked off form in the combination of strong wind and waves.
