SAILING WORLD RANKINGS RELEASED 2 MAY

03 May 2016

Three events have been contested since the last rankings released on 21 March 2016, including:

Sailing World Cup Hyeres, France
470 European Championship, Mallorca, Spain
Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia, Mallorca, Spain

470 WOMEN
All change in the 470 Women World Rankings as Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie pop back into the overall lead, knocking Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark down to second. No change in third place for Camille Lecointre/Helene Defrance.

Despite winning Sailing World Cup Hyeres, the added bonus for Aleh/Powrie of competing at the 2016 Worlds in Argentina, which the British did not compete at pushes the Kiwis back into the lead.

The rest of the 470 Women top ten remains the same, although a shuffle around in the order, except one new entry from Australians Carrie Smith/Jamie Ryan. The pair have enjoyed a series of top results since the last rankings on 21 March 2016 and move up six places to tenth overall.

Career best ranking position for Carrie Smith/ Jaime Ryan (AUS) to tenth overall, up from sixteenth.

470 MEN
No change in the top three in the 470 Men, pitching Mat Belcher/Will Ryan (AUS) still leading the way. Bar three minor blips off the world #1 slot in September 2012, June 2014 and April 2015 , Belcher has led the way with Will Ryan and previous crew Malcolm Page since August 2010. An epic fun of form. But recently the pair has not had it all their own way, as Croatia’s Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic close the gap and have beaten the Australians twice in the four events they have both contested so far in 2016.

World #2 are Fantela/Marenic, with Stu McNay/Dave Hughes (USA) in third. Moving up to #4 are Panagotis Mantis/Pavlos Kagialis.

Sofian Bouvet/Jeremie Mion (FRA) drop out of the world’s top 10 ranking leaderboard, replaced by  Anton Dahlberg/Fredrik Bergstrom (SWE) who climb in at #6 off the back of a string of top ten results since the last rankings.

Significant jumps also go to Turkey’s brothers Deniz Cinar/Ates Cinar up to #17 from #26

The next Sailing World Rankings will be released on 13 June 2016.
