Young Kiwis Set for 470 Worlds

Young New Zealand 470 sailors, Finn Drummond and Frankie Lardies report on their build up for the 470 World Championships taking place in The Netherlands from 9-18 July 2010:

"Hi Everyone,

This is just a quick report on the last couple of months letting you know what we have been up to in the lead up to the Worlds starting next week.

Since the end of the season we have been training hard with the rest of the NZ team preparing for the Worlds starting on the 12th of July in The Hague, The Netherlands. The NZ fleet has grown considerably over the last six months with seven boats out training most weekends - which has been great and the fleet is now expected to grow in preparation for the Junior Worlds in 2012 at Takapuna.

Our training through the winter has consisted of training camps organised by YNZ throughout Auckland, which were great as we have been able to make the most out of the range of conditions throughout the last few months. They were run by Nathan Handley, and Andrew Brown with guest coaches such as Hamish Willcox, Murray Jones and Mike Drummond which we have both learned huge amounts from.

We also launched our new boat with a big thanks to the Four Winds Foundation, Selden, Sailutions and the Glendowie Boating Club for making it possible. The boat has been fitted with the new range of Selden gear and a new Selden mast which have all been great and performing extremely well.

We have now arrived in Holland after a 40 hour trip of too many planes trains and buses, where the container is waiting to be unloaded, and we will be training for the next two weeks putting in the last few hours in preparation. The wind for the next week looks very light with a big high sitting over Europe at the moment. Hopefully we get sailing soon!

Thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters who have made our campaign possible;

Sparc, Sailutions, Selden, North Sails, Four Winds Foundation, Pelorus Trust, Talleys, Mackay Boats, Glendowie Boating Club, Wakatere Development Trust and Wakatere Boating Club

Finn and Frankie"
