XXXVth International 470 Spring Cup

Hosted by ASPTT Marseille, France, the XXXVth International 470 Spring Cup got underway today. With 60 entries, spanning 23 nations and 5 continents, this prestigious event yet again proves itself as being a firm favourite on the 470 Calendar, attracting many of the world's best 470 sailors.

Taking place from 13-18 April 2010, the sailors are racing as a mixed fleet with men and women on the same race course, together with the 420 fleet – for a total of 101 boats across the 470 and 420 fleets.

Today's opening race was won by the Japanese team of Harada Ryunosuke and Yoshida Yogu, followed by Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente (ARG), with Paul Snow-Hansen and Jason Saunders (NZL) rounding out the top three. The top placed women's team was Ingrid Petitjean and Nadege Douroux (FRA) sailing on their homewaters of Marseille.

Moving into race 2, it was a French domination at the top with Pierre Leboucher and Vincent Garos (FRA) taking the gun, young stars Sofian Bouvet and Jeremie Mion (FRA) in hot pursuit in second, leaving Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente (ARG) to round out the top three.

Today's two races were sailed in good wind conditions, with wind from the west, ranging between 8 and 13 knots with sunshine and excellent sea conditions. After light and shifty winds delayed racing, the Race Committee got the day's competition underway at 15:30 hours local time.
