TWO-PERSON DINGHY MIXED CONFIRMED FOR PARIS 2024

14 May 2018

Today, 14 May 2018, the World Sailing Council decided the remaining 5 events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After several rounds of voting, the final vote was between two submissions – M18-18 and M22-18 - both of which included the Mixed Two-Person Dinghy, Windsurfer Men, Windsurfer Women and Mixed Kite. The only difference between the two was the event choices for the remaining event, with Council members to decide whether to choose a Mixed Keelboat event and vote for submission M18-18 or a Mixed One-person Dinghy event and vote for Submission M22-18.

Council opted for the Mixed One-Person Dinghy, and now with Submission M22-18 approved, the equipment for these five events will now be decided in November 2018. Submission M22-18 made it clear the intention was to retain the 470 for the Mixed Two-Person Dinghy event, but the World Sailing Regulations require any new event to have new equipment (the 470 can be this “new” equipment). However, logic dictates that M22-18 was all about maintaining continuity and therefore retaining the 470 and the Finn.

Further update to follow, and in the meantime take a read of World Sailing’s official press release from the day’s meeting:
