SWITZERLAND AND GREECE TOP THE LEADERBOARD ON OPENING DAY AT HYERES25 Apr 2017
Over 500 sailors from 52 nations opened their quest for World Cup honours, personal best performances and bragging rights as the second event of the 2017 series got underway in Hyères, France.
Events cannot be won on the first day in sailing but they can certainly be lost. So, in a stable 8-11 knot south easterly breeze, it was vital that those aiming for the top honours laid down a marker with consistent race results.
In the 470 men, Rio 2016 bronze medallists Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis (GRE) lead the men's division, with scores of 1,5. The other win of the day went to Japan’s Sosaku Koizumi and Tomoya Noda, off the back of their opening score of 18. Second overall to Spain’s Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodrigues, with Sweden’s Carl Fock and Marcus Dackhammar in third.
A strong opener from Switzerland's Linda Fahrni and Maja Siegenthaler who control the women's fleet after two races, scoring a 2,1 each. Some new partnerships in the 470 Women will make for some hard predictions of how racing will unfold here in Hyeres. Second to Spain’s Silvia Mas Depares and Patricia Cantero Reino, with Italy’s Elena Berta and Sveva Carraro one point behind in third.
