SOUTH AFRICA'S OLYMPIANS MIX IT UP WITH 470 ASPIRANTS
20 Sep 2016With their second Olympic appearance racked up in Rio 2016, South Africa's Asenthi Jim/Roger Hudson took to the race track just south of Cape Town for some slightly more relaxed racing over the weekend of 17-18 September.
The Southern Charter Classic series has established a reputation for fun, family racing. Well organized, with lots of socials and prizes, event 1 of the 2016/2017 series was hosted at Zeekoe Vlei Yacht Club.
Featuring three 470 teams, the Olympic pairing did not dominate as might have been expected, ending on tiebreak with one of the young teams they have been mentoring.
Jim/Hudson opened with back to back wins, before their proteges Sibu Sizatu/Alex Burger seized the opportunity on Sunday's lighter breeze day to overtake, scoring four wins in a row. Nine points apiece between the two teams put Sizatu/Burger ahead on tiebreak as they won the last race.
Thrid to Brevan Thompson/Josh Rubenstein.
Event 2 of the series takes place on 3-4 Secember at Theewater Sports Club.
