RUSSIAN 470 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WIN TO SOZYKIN/GRIBANOV
03 Nov 2015The 470 Class fielded the largest number of entries of all classes at the Russian Olympic Classes Championship, which wrapped up on Saturday 31 October 2015 in Sochi.
Sochi is the training base for the Russian National Sailing team. Racing was mainly held in low and moderate winds, with 33 teams contesting the 470 event.
Pavel Sozykin/Denis Gribanov, who recently secured the bronze medal at the 2015 470 Worlds, knocked out a stunning performance, winning 7 of 8 races and the medal race Second place went to Vladimir Chaus/Denis Goretiy, and third place to Kristian Chekh/Maxim Cherenkov.
All three teams are coached by Mikhail Zabolotnov, who has been nominated for Coach of the Year 2015 by the Russian Sailing Federation.
Interesting to note that performances from Russia's 470 sailors during 2015 have been the best of all the Olympic Classes.
