Fourth day of racing and last day of Qualifying series for Men’s division in 470 2018 Junior Worlds and it was another difficult day with big wind shifts testing the patience of all parties involved.

At 11:00 o’clock, the day started with skipper’s meeting, followed by a presentation of the natural park “Parco Naturale Regionale di Bracciano – Martignano” where the hosting Club “Planet Sail” is located. The problem of the water level of the lake was introduced as within the last two years it has dramatically decreased.

Westerly light winds was today’s forecast.  After a nearly missed storm that was fortunately routed behind the mountains around the lake, the clouds went away and wind came in late in the afternoon. First gun for the yellow fleet at 16:10 ended up in a general recall. After several starts with shifty wind directions which crews never properly raced, the real action started at 17:38 with the yellow fleet followed by the blue fleet and last, but not least, Women’s fleet which started its first race of the day at 18:05. Second race for crews started around 19:00!

At the top of the fleets in Men’s division is the French duo Hippolyte MACHETTI/Sidoine DANTÈS  and in Women’s series Theres DAHNKE/Birte WINKEL from Germany with 8 and 9 points respectively ahead of the following  teams.

It was a long day, nevertheless all sailors, coaches, race and jury committees returned to base at sunset time where the lake offers its best colors, tired but satisfied to have six races completed. Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s forecast which looks more promising.
