Obituary - Andre Mayeur (FRA)

Farewell André - we are very sad to learn that André Mayeur, 470 pioneer, passed away in May 2011.

A very good sailor André bought his first 470 in 1965 and sailed a lot of 470 regattas over many years.

In 1965, he joined the Management Committee of the French 470 Class Association and was elected at the same time as the first Treasurer of the 470 Internationale, a role he held up until 1967. He was strongly involved in the separation between the French 470 Class Association and the 470 Internationale by negotiating independent ways to finance the 470 Internationale by royalties from builders and annual fees from National 470 Class Associations.

In 1981, Alain Corcuff, President of the French 470 Class Association at that time, called him back to become the Treasurer of the Organizing Committee of the 470 World Championship sailed in Quiberon, France. He accepted again to take the same position for the 1988 470 European Championships also organized in Quiberon by the French 470 Class Association in the same configuration. André was also involved in the Organizing Committee of the 470 World Championships sailed in Crozon-Morgat, France in 1993.

André returned to the 470 Internationale as Treasurer from 1984 to 1988, under the Presidency of Heinz Staudt.

Since that time, he had never missed the opportunity to visit the French 470 Class Association at the Boat Show in Paris every year.

André made a strong commitment and highly valuable contributions to the 470 life. A large part of the financial reserves the 470 Internationale has nowadays is due to Andre’s competency in managing financial matters.

We offer our condolences and sympathy to André's family, especially his daughter Martine.
