MENDES/THIESEN AND OLIVEIRA/BARBACHAN WIN 470 BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS22 Dec 2014
Second time lucky for the two teams who sealed the 470 Brazilian Championship title on Friday 19 December at Nitteroi, Brazil, as both Geison Mendes/Gustavo Thiesen and Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Barbachan repeated their 2013 victories.
The 2014 Brazilian National Championship in Rio de Janeiro was contested within the 2014 Copa Brasil de Vela, for the Brazilian teams only.
Four 470 Men and two 470 Women teams were in contention for the National Championships title.
Mendes/Thiesen finished 11th overall in the 2014 Copa Brasil de Vela, and won the Brazilian National Championship title by 5 points over Henrique Haddad/Bruno Bethlem, with Tiago Brito/Andrei Kneipp in third.
In the 470 Women, Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Barbachan won the Brazilian 470 Nationals on Friday and then followed up on Saturday by winning the 2014 Copa Brasil de Vela with a decisive win in the medal race easily ensuring their victory.
