MCNAY/HUGHES & COWLES TWINS WINNERS OF 2021 470 NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

13 Jan 2021

A mix of offshore conditions met this year’s 470 fleet vying for the 2021 North American Championship, January 8-10. Named in honor of the late Olympic gold medalist Kevin Burnham, this year’s edition brought nine teams to the waters of Biscayne Bay.

Under the watchful eye of PRO Ron Rofstofer, Coconut Grove Sailing Club, in partnership with the US Sailing Center, ran seven races over three days.  Hats off to all the volunteers for running such a well-organized and safe event during these challenging times.

Shifty and puffy breezes on Days #1 and #2 made for big decisions and plenty of gear changes. Once the front pulled through, Day #3 was left with drifter conditions, ultimately cancelling all remaining races.

Olympians Stu McNay and Dave Hughes were crowned overall regatta winners and the men’s/mixed champions. The Cowles twins finished second, taking the women’s North American title.
