ISRAEL TAKES LEAD IN 470 WOMEN, 3 WINS TO BELCHER/RYAN ON DAY 2 OF ISRAEL 470 NATIONALS
02 Oct 2015Day 2 at the Israeli 470 Nationals and setting the pace are Australia’s Mat Belcher/Will Ryan who knocked out a straight line of wins from the three races.
In the morning, the light breeze kept the fleets postponed ashore, before kicking in around 1130 hours. Starting off at 6-7 knots, the wind increased to 12 knots for race 2, before dropping to 8-9 knots for the final race of the day.
The Australians have established a 15 point margin over Eyal Levin/Dan Froylich (ISR) in second place, with Spain’s Onan Barreiros/Juan Curbelo in third.
Plenty of black flag penalties today, as teams push as far as they can – but high counting scores for some means it will almost an impossible fightback up the leaderboard over the coming two days.
All change in the 470 Women, as local 470 stars Gil Cohen/Danielle Maman raced three solid results to take the lead with 9 point advantage over Annie Haegar/Briana Provancha (USA). Third to Noya Bar-Am/Rimon Shushan.
The three race wins were shared between three different teams, with race 4 victory to Nadine Boehm/Ann Christine Golias (GER), race 5 to Annika Bochmann/Marlene Steinherr (GER) and race 6 to Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler.
Racing continues tomorrow, Saturday 3 October.
The National Championships is a great opportunity for teams to really get a flavour of racing conditions off Haifa, ahead of the 2015 470 World Championships in a week’s time.
