GIACOMO FERRARI/GIULIO CALABRO THE 2018 ITALIAN CHAMPIONS

26 Mar 2018

The 2018 Italian Championship of Olympic Classes ended today in Genoa, after four days of racing in which around 200 athletes have faced different types of conditions: from the strong wind of the first day, to the light air of the second, to the meteorological indecision of the third day and to last day’s almost summer situation with light breezes, flat sea and blue skies.

A total of 60 races were concluded by the approximately 180 boats that took part in the most important Italian sailing event to decide the Italian titles for 2018. On the five race fields the competition was ignited with leadership exchanges, protests and consequent disqualifications. The work of the Race Committee was intense but together with the help of the hosting club Yacht Club Italiano at the base of Genoa Fair, the event was a very successful one.

In the 470 Mens, the title of Italian Champions goes to Giacomo Ferrari and Giulio Calabrò (Marina Militare), without losing the head of the classification, despite Matteo Capurro and Matteo Puppo (YC Italiano) having raced a good championship and  discarding only a fifth place, being behind only 4 points; the bronze goes to Cesare Massa and Mattia Panigoni (YC Italiano). Ferrari and Calabrò also win the Italian Junior title.

The first three 470 Women teams are separated with only three points: the Italian title for 2018 goes to Bendetta Di Salle and Alessandra Dubbini (YC Italiano), third in the general classification with two wins in seven, silver medal to the other female team of the hosting club, Ilaria Paternoster and Bianca Caruso (YC Italiano), and bronze to Elena Berta and Sveva Carraro (CS Aeronautica Militare) that came fifth in general division. Salle and Dubbini are also Italian Junior Champion.
