FRANCE, GERMANY AND GREAT BRITAIN LEAD AFTER THE FIRST OF THE TWO QUALIFYING DAYS OF THE 470 JUNIOR EUROPEANS IN AROUSA

25 Jul 2019

Vilagarcía, 25 july 2019.- With only two qualifying days, the 470 fleet sailed in the Alfa area, the closest to Vilagarcía (south of the islet of O Con and the Malveira Islands), with the clear lead of the Germans Theres Dahnke and Birte Winkel (Plauer Wassersportverein eV / Schweriner-Yachtclub) in the women's category (1-1-1, 2 points after the discard), with eleven boats, and the French Jerome Demange and Luc Guimbertaud (85034 CNHR). The French, as the Germans, scored three victories in the general male and mixed fleet of 48 boats.

The Mixed category is new this year, and the British Vita Heathcote and Ryan Orr are leading (5-1-7) with 6 points after excluding their third and worst result of the day. Very close we find the Swiss Chiara Valenti and Jann Schüpbach (Basler Segelclub / TYC), with 8 points (3-UFD-5), and the Italians Maria Vittoria Marchesini and Bruno Festo (Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano / LNI Mandello), who this month became the Junior world champions in Portoroz (Slovenia), after winning in the Gulf of Trieste. Marchesini and Festo have a score of 10 points after their great improvement along the day from the tenth position in the first race to the 7th in the second and the 3rd in the third race and discarding their worst result.

The host fleet will have to wait for a better day. Outside the Top 20 in the male and mixed fleet, with no options either in the women's classification ... their day was as bad as that the Turkish Dario Deniz Ergün and Toprak Şengüller, who three hours after leaving the Galician Sailing Center returned to the Cavadelo ramp without having raced the first two races due to different problems.
