Estonia Extends Support to Lithuania
An extreme storm, with strong winds, badly hit the Lithuania 470 fleet in early August, with immense damage caused to many of the boats. Whilst the hull damage could be repaired, the impact of falling trees on masts was irreparable.
Ricardas Novinkas, from the Lithuanian National 470 Class Association put out a plea to the 470 community to assist, particularly with any offers of replacement masts. As with all good stories it was not long before a fellow sailor came to the rescue, in the form of Ott Kallas, President of the Estonian National 470 Class Association who kindly provided some masts to get the fleet back on its feet. Big thanks to Ott.
The latest news from Ricardas is that the masts have arrived in Lithuania and the 470 fleet will be up and running this weekend.
These pictures by Ricardas tell the story better than words.
