Early Leads to Spain and Germany at Imperia Winter Regatta

The ISAF Grade 3 Imperia Winter Regatta got underway on 5 December, with two races each for the men's and women's fleet. Racing is hosted by the Yacht Club Imperia out of Oneglia Harbour. Imperia is between San Remo to the west and Alassio to the east.

Fifty-six 470's are contesting the racing, in what were great conditions on the opening day if a bit chilly - with snow settled on the mountains behind the town.

Early days yet, with so far consistency leading in the men's fleet. The teams who won each of the races failed to deliver quite so well in the other race, and it is Spain's David Omedes Requena and Oscar Lopez Ravetllat who lead so far.

In the women's fleet, the bullet in the second race for Germany's Marlene Trommer and Lorena Abicht was a great end to a strong opening day and joined their third place in race 1.

Racing continues through until 8 December.
