Dominance At Expert Olympic Garda

After a week of varied conditions in Lake Garda, the Olympic Garda Eurolymp Grade 2 ISAF regatta came to a close on Sunday. Despite no racing on the first day of racing due to lack of wind, things soon settled down and some great competition unfolded for the rest of the event.

Unbeatable from the first day in the men's fleet were Argentinians Lucas Calabrese and Juan De la Fuente who wrapped up their string of top 5 finishes with the ultimate demonstration of dominance – victory in the medal race as well. An excellent result for the Dubbini brothers (ITA), Luca and Roberto, who over the last two days upped their game and placed second in the medal race to take the silver podium position. A move up of two places compared to last year's fourth place – and a result which will certainly rank amongst their best to date. Just behind Luca and Roberto were Italian team mates Gabrio Zandonà and Pietro Zucchetti who finished in third overall after a seventh in the medal race.

Another decisive victory in the women's fleet with the Japanese crew of Ai Kondo and Wakako Tabata taking first in the medal race and first overall. Currently at four on the ISAF Sailing World Rankings, this team continues to achieve a consistent level of high performance. Next stop for them will be the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik where they will aim to defend their gold medal from 2009. Chasing hard behind were team mates Yuka Yoshisako and Noriko Okuma who placed second, with Italy’s Giulia Conti and Giovanna Micol finished fourth in the medal race and third place overall just one point adrift of the silver medal.
