CHARBONNIER/LE BERRE (FRA) OUTRIGHT WINNERS OF GAES CHRISTMAS RACE
23 Dec 2014French 470 men team Nicolas Charbonnier/Nicolas Le Berre have won the Manuel Albalat Trophy and are the absolute winners of the 39 GAES Christmas Race.
World ranked #25, Charbonnie was the 470 bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 420 World Champion in Palamós in 1998. Chabonnier won the Manuel Company Trophy to the best youth team in 2008. This is the first time Charbonnier wins the Absolute Winner trophy with crew Nicolas Le Berre.
The pair put in an outstanding performance on the Bay of Palamos,claiming four wins from the five races sailed. Silver also went to France and teammates Guillaume Pirouelle/Valentin Sipan, with Spain's 2014 470 Junior World Champions Jordi Xammar and Joan Herp wrapping up the podium with bronze.
In the 470 Women, victory to France again with some superb racing from Maelenn Lemaitre/Aloise Retornaz from their scoreline of all top four finishes in the twenty-one boat fleet. Spain's Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López.in second and France up on the podium again in third with Cassandre Blandin/Bérénice Delpuech.
