BOUVET/MION WIN 2015 470 SPRING CUP13 Apr 2015
A nail biting three races on the final day at the 2015 470 Spring Cup hosted at Yacht Club Pointe Rouge in Marseille, France on Sunday 12 April 2015.
Four days of racing for the fifty-seven boat fleet, saw the men and women fleets racing up against each other, with teams from 23 nations competing.
All was looking good for series leaders Ferdinand Gerz/Oliver Szymanksi (GER), who held a narrow 2 point margin over Sofian Bouvet/Jeremie Mion (FRA) who were on 39 points, with Croatia's Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic in third on 40 points. But the final day of racing turned out to be the Germans' worst scoring day of the series, as they knocked out finishes of 27, 14 and 6 to tumble down the leaderboard to 4th overall. The points battle was now on between the French, Croatians and Israel's new partnership of Eyal Levin/Dan Froyliche.
Bouvet/Mion didn't put a foot wrong, sailing a solid three races to place 6,5,11. Levin/Froyliche won the first race of the day, 2nd in the next and were in contention for the the of the podium, but some solid covering by the French pair kept the Israeli's where they wanted them, giving the win to France, second to Israel and third to Croatia.
Speaking after his win, Bouvet said, "We had not won since the World Cup 2014 in Miami. It was getting long and here we now re-inflated."
Mion continued, "We will go into Hyères with full confidence and we must remain in the same state of mind. We trust our settings but we must stay focused on what has made us successful."
Top placed women's team were Ai Kondo Yoshida/Miho Yoshioka (JPN) in 13th overall, followed by Marjaliisa Umb/Elise Umb in 19th overall and Cassandre Blandin/Berenice Delpuech (FRA) in 21st overall.
