Bids Invited For 470 Championships

According to our Constitution and By-Laws, our General Assembly, in its annual meeting to be held at The Hague (Netherlands) on 10 July 2010, will have to allocate the organisation and to decide the venue of the:

  • Junior European Championships for 2012
  • Master's Cup for 2012

At the same time, the General Assembly will have to select the potential venues for the following Championships:

  • World Championships for 2014
  • European Championships for 2013 and 2014
  • Junior World Championships for 2013 and 2014
  • Junior European Championships for 2013 and 2014
  • Master's Cups for 2013 and 2014

The final choice of the venues for these 2013 and 2014 Championships will be made by the 2011 General Assembly meeting after the Management Committee organises site inspections and meetings with the selected bidders.

The decisions to be made by the General Assembly on the here above listed Championships (allocation for 2012, selection for 2013 and 2014) will be based on the bids received in due time. According to the bids received at that time, decisions or preferences for the subsequent years might also be considered.

We would like also to point out that the Junior European Championships should be preferably combined with the corresponding 420 Class event. According to the agreement we have with the International 420 Class Association, the venue of the combined event should be chosen for 2012 by the International 420 Class Association then confirmed by our General Assembly, and vice-versa for 2013. However, the choice made by the International 420 Class Association may be confirmed by our General Assembly only if we have received also a bid in due time from the corresponding organiser.

If your nation is interested in organising an International Class Championship not yet allocated (list here above, including the Master's Cup for 2012), you are kindly requested to send to our Association an official bid including proposals for dates and possible venues, and all relevant information necessary to make a decision.

Your bid shall include, at least, the following information and documents:

  • a letter of candidature duly signed by the President or the Secretary General of your National 470 Class Association, and endorsed by the President of the proposed Organizing Authority; this letter shall specify the Championship(s) and the year(s) for which this organisation is proposed, shall include the preferred dates, as well as the other possible dates or impossible dates and shall explain the reasons why you consider this candidature as valuable for the 470 Class and for your country or area; this letter shall also state and show evidence that no existing national law or regulation might prevent one or some National 470 Class Associations to take part in the Championship;
  • a letter duly signed by the President of the proposed Organising Authority acknowledging that she/he has read the 470 Class Championships Organisation Manual (available at www.470.org/userfiles/docs/Manual%20%20-%20February%202010.pdf) and that she/he agrees on applying it for the proposed organisation; if any, this letter shall list all departures from the requirements of the Manual that the proposed Organising Authority would like to introduce or discuss, and provide rationale accordingly; please, refer to the typical applicant form here attached;
  • a presentation of the proposed Organising Authority: venue, name and type (Sailing Club, group of Clubs, other types), number of members, financial turnover, facilities ashore, available equipment for regattas, description of the race area (map, wind conditions, currents, traffic, …);
  • a presentation of the references and experience of the proposed Organising Authority in the organisation of similar events;
  • an estimate of the total budget needed for the proposed organisation, and the associated financial plan expected by the Organising Authority (entry fees, subsidies, sponsorship fees, merchandising, others);
  • any additional information and comments that you feel necessary to give to complete your bid.

Please complete and submit your bid using the 470 Championship Bid Applicant Form.

Your bid(s) has(have) to be sent before 20 June 2010 to the 470 Internationale by e-mail to office@470.org and/or by post-mail to 470 Internationale
