Alexander The Great Cup 2010

The ISAF Grade 3 Alexander the Great Cup took place from 3-7 March 2010, immediately before Athens Eurolymp Week 2010 and many of the same faces appeared at both events.

Hosted by the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, the event attracted a predominantly Greek fleet which was complemented by crew from Croatia and Bulgaria, including the reigning 470 World Champions, Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic (CRO). With a world ranking of seven Fantela and Marenic were the team to watch in the men's fleet.

However, whilst Fantela and Marenic's performance was solid, they could not challenge the home teams of Panagiotis Mandis and Pavlos Kagialis (GRE) or Panagiotis Kambouridis and Gerasimos Orologas (GRE) who between them took all the race wins and first and second overall respectively. The 6 race series gave Mandis and Kagialis a performance of four race victories a second and fourth – to secure a marginal 6 point margin over the defending title holders Kagialis and Kamouridis.

Enia Nincevic and Romana Zupan (CRO) finished ninth overall in the combined men's and women's fleet, and were the top placed women's crew. Ten points behind were Afroditi Kyranakoy and Antonia Psoma (GRE) in second and Virginia Kravarioti and Olga Tsigaridi (GRE) in third.

Top placed juniors were Mihalis Stavrou and Stathis Papadopoulos (GRE) in the men and Afroditi Kyranakoy and Antonia Psoma (GRE) in the women.
