470 SAILORS SHORTLISTED FOR YACHTS & YACHTING AWARDS
13 Nov 2014The annual Yachts & Yachting Awards aim to highlight the best performances, products, clubs and events of the last 12 months.
Great to see two 470 teams nominated in the categories of most outstanding sailor and youth sailor of the year:
Mat Belcher (AUS) is nominated for Sailor of the Year 2015, in other words the most outstanding sailor of the year award. Victory in the men’s 470 at the ISAF Worlds for Mat Belcher and Will Ryan saw them taking their second consecutive world title together and took Belcher’s tally to a record-breaking five World Championship wins in a row. The pair also wrapped up their second consecutive Open European Championship win in Athens, Greece.
On 4 November 2014, Belcher and Ryan stood amongst the shortlisted sailors at the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards.
Jess Lavery and Megan Brickwood (GBR) have pulled off a successful year in the junior 470 fleets, securing silver with a day to spare at the 470 Junior World Championships in Cervia, Italy, and fourth at the 470 Junior Europeans in Gdynia, Italy. The pair then faced off against the world's elite 470 fleet at the 2014 Santander Worlds in Spain.
