470 Photo of the Day - The Flying 470

This stunning photos was posted on the Facebook page of the Aussie sailing team and shows a British team simply flying in a 470 whilst training in the Bay of Palma, prior to the Princess Sofia Trophy which is just about to get underway. As Malcolm Page commented, "What class do you think can race in these conditions?". Added to by Pete Conway, "Pretty committed!! Were the 470 guys the only class able to leave the beach in this stuff?"

470 sailors know that the 470 can sail in the widest range of weather conditions and as the International 470 Class Association stated in our submission to the ISAF Mid-Year meeting proposing the 470 as a core event, "The range of sail and rig controls on the 470 allows the boat to be tuned to obtain optimum performance in a wide range of conditions; a skill that is fundamental to sailing in the widest context. The result is that the 470 can be raced in winds in excess of 30 knots or as little as 3 knots."

And the full width shot ....
