2012 Olympic Events

The Council of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has decided today the 10 events which will be part of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The ISAF had to take the difficult decision to drop one event due to the reduction from 11 to 10 medals decided by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The events selected for the 2012 Olympic Games are as follows (the number in brackets shows the number of votes each event has received out of the 36 available):

Men: 1) windsurfer (35) 2) one person dinghy (36) 3) one person dinghy heavy weight (33) 4) two person dinghy (34) 5) two person dinghy high performance (34) 6) keelboat (23)
- multihull (21) – non selected

Women: 7) windsurfer (34) 8) one person dinghy (35) 9) two person dinghy (31) 10) keelboat – match racing (21)
- two person dinghy high performance (20) – not selected
- multihull (3) – not selected

The 470 Internationale took notice of the above decision directly in Estoril, where a delegation of the Class has been in attendance of the conference the entire week. The 470 Internationale warmly thanks and expresses its high appreciation to all the countries that have so strongly supported the 470 in this selection and looks forward to a productive cooperation with them both for securing next year the 470 into the two person dinghy men and women events and for developing the 470 community in each country, as well to increase the number of nations competing in the Class and making the 470 more media friendly.
