2011 Delta Lloyd Regatta - Racing Starts 24 May

The 2011 Delta Lloyd Regatta is getting underway on 24 May in Medemblik, Holland, with racing starting on 24 May. Men's 470 duo Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page (AUS) will be looking to clinch their first medal in Europe in this year's ISAF Sailing World Cup. The pair won Sail Melbourne and picked up silver at the Rolex Miami OCR, but they finished seventh in Palma and came sixth in Hyères to sit second in the Men's 470 World Cup Standings on 54 points. However, they still lead the ISAF Sailing World Rankings – which really shows their form over all events contested.

Also sailing in the 74 boat Men's 470 fleet is World Ranked #2 Croatian pair of Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic and Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis (GRE) who currently sit in #4 on the ISAF Sailing World Rankings.

Winners in Holland last year were Nic Asher and Elliot Willis of Great Britain. Earlier this year they won US SAILING's Rolex Miami OCR and finished #6 in Palma – so we will see what they deliver in Holland.

In the Women's 470, 31 boats are set to race, with many teams focusing their attention to this year's Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, the next event on the ISAF Sailing World Cup circuit. Three of the world's top ten teams on the World Cup Standings will be in Holland, with Tara Pacheco and Berta Betanzos (ESP) who are joint sixth place Henriette Koch and Lene Sommer (DEN) on 35 points and Ai Kondo and Wakako Tabata (JPN), eighth on 32 points, will sail in Medemblik.

2010 470 World Champions and silver medallists at Delta Lloyd, Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout (NED) will be looking for their first regatta medal of the season, having contested only one of the ISAF Sailing World Cup events so far this year. Will the home waters support give them a boost – no doubt it will make a difference.

Racing gets underway on Tuesday 24 May with 11 races scheduled. The final Medal Race days is Sunday 29 May.
