Qualified nations for Qingdao

Monday 11 February 2008, by Alain

The World Championships sailed in Melbourne in January were the last chances for nations to qualify for the Olympic events for 470 men and/or 470 women.

In the men fleet, 16 nations competed for the 8 remaining places. At the end of the qualifying phase of the Championship, 4 out of these 16 nations entered the Gold fleet and thus were already qualified for Qingdao, namely New-Zealand, Russia, Brazil and Poland. 6 out of the 12 remaining nations entered the Silver fleet, competing for the 4 remaining places. Austria, Switzerland, Turkey and Finland succeeded in being qualified.

In the women fleet, 17 nations competed for the 5 remaining places. 7 out of them entered the Gold fleet, among them Argentina, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and Czech Republic succeeded in being qualified.

The 470 Internationale is particularly happy and proud that Argentina qualified for the women event, their crew, Fernanda Sesto and Monsegur Consuelo, having been one of the beneficiaries of the 2008 Olympic Pathway Solidarity Grant launched by 470 Internationale and aimed at helping sailors to take part in the 2008 World Championship.

The official and final list of the qualified nations for the 2008 Olympic events in 470 Class have now been published on the ISAF website
